Fire Damage Restoration in Wichita After Dishwasher Fire

A dishwasher fire can leave a home with more than visible fire damage. Smoke, soot, odors, and the water used to extinguish the flames can affect flooring, walls, ceilings, fixtures, contents, and other areas throughout the property.

Stover’s Restoration recently completed a fire damage restoration project in the College Hill neighborhood of Wichita after a dishwasher caught fire inside a home. Our team worked directly with the homeowner and their State Farm insurance adjuster to establish the scope of work and begin restoring the property.

Coordinating the Fire Damage Restoration Scope

After the fire, our team met with the homeowner and the insurance adjuster at the property. Together, we reviewed the affected areas and established a scope of work for the cleanup and restoration process.

Coordinating with the homeowner and adjuster at the beginning of the project helped ensure the visible fire damage, smoke contamination, soot, firefighting water, and affected contents were properly addressed. The project was completed as an insurance claim through State Farm.

Drying the Tile and Wood Floors

Although the dishwasher was the source of the fire, additional damage occurred when the fire department used water to extinguish the flames. That water affected both tile and wood flooring inside the home.

Stover’s Restoration placed professional drying equipment throughout the affected areas to begin removing moisture from the flooring and surrounding materials. Addressing the water damage was an important first step before the detailed fire, smoke, and soot cleaning could move forward.

Cleaning Laundry and Affected Contents

The following day, our team returned to collect affected laundry from the home. The clothing and other washable items were transported to our facility, where they could be professionally cleaned away from the fire-damaged environment.

Removing affected laundry from the property allowed our team to begin restoring those items while the structural cleaning continued inside the home. Other contents that remained at the property were cleaned on-site as part of the restoration process.

Removing Soot and Smoke Odors From the Home

Once the drying process was underway, our team began cleaning the structure and affected contents. The restoration work included cleaning:

  • Air ducts
  • Walls
  • Ceilings
  • Tile and wood flooring
  • Fixtures
  • Contents remaining inside the home

Each affected surface required careful cleaning to remove soot residue and reduce smoke odors throughout the property. Our team worked systematically through the home to address both the areas closest to the dishwasher fire and other surfaces affected by smoke movement.

Completing the Wichita Fire Damage Project

Stover’s Restoration completed the fire damage cleaning and restoration work over a seven-day period. During that time, our team coordinated with the homeowner and insurance adjuster, dried the affected flooring, transported laundry for off-site cleaning, and cleaned the structure and contents to remove soot and smoke odors.

This project is an example of how even a contained appliance fire can affect multiple parts of a home. The damage extended beyond the dishwasher itself and required water mitigation, structural cleaning, contents cleaning, laundry cleaning, soot removal, and smoke odor treatment.
